The Kiwanis Club of Golden has several "signature" projects each year. These projects provide community service and fellowship to the members:
Den Galbraith ScholarshipA wine tasting is held each year in the fall to raise funds for the Scholarship fund. The wine tasting is sponsored by Foss Drugs. Wine distributors representing France, South America, the Western Slope, and California are present.
Currently three students from Golden High School who are attending the School of Mines are receiving scholarship funds. In the future, four scholarships will be sponsored.
With the assistance of our sponsored youth (Builders Club, Key Club, and Circle K) we provide thousands of stuffed plastic eggs for the youth of Golden to enjoy at Easter. As the project has grown in popularity, the merchants of Golden have also become involved in supplying "goodies" for the eggs!
On the morning of the hunt, the Kiwanians and sponsored youth volunteers spread eggs throughout Parfet Park with different areas for the different age groups. Once the bell sounds, kids clean the park in 30 seconds, or less, and then head into downtown for activities sponsored by the merchants!
The American Flag Service started on Memorial Day 28 May 2001 with 155 flags along
South Golden Rd. The merchants got together and made contributions to kick the
project off. The project provides American flags at homes and community locations on
five holidays during the year:
Flags are also displayed for special events or in times of national mourning.
Funds raised are used to purchase poles and flags, with all remaining proceeds donated to youth organizations in Golden.

Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN)
Families come into the IHN program when circumstances beyond their control force them into a homeless situation. Families stay in the program for 3 months, and in addition to the food and shelter, they are provided with a home address (for job applications and school information). Once a quarter, our club members serve a meal to families (usually 8 adults and 10 children) at the Jefferson Avenue United Methodist Church. Recently, we have also become involved with the IHN “Shots-for-Tots” vaccination program. Immunizations usually cost $15 per child, and sometimes, when children have not been previously immunized, the cost can be more than the families and IHN can handle.
Each year, we prepare and serve breakfast for the participants for Relay for Life. This event is held annually at the Colorado School of Mines' Brooks Stadium. Food is provided by local sponsors.
