Proclamation

WHEREAS, "The American Flag Project" was started in the spring of 2001 as a service to subscribers to sponsor an American Flag for a $25 donation for 5 holidays per year; and

WHEREAS, the Golden Kiwanis Club is the sponsoring organization and Boy Scout Troop 130 is the "Premier" youth organization to coordinate and benefit from this project; and

WHEREAS, the "Kick Off" event for this project on Memorial Day, 2001, envisioned by Jayne Byl, Troop 130 Flag Coordinator, was the placing of flags on the roundabouts and islands in South Golden Road; and

WHEREAS, the flags are now placed at residences and businesses who have subscribed to the flag service on Memorial Day, Flag Day, the 4th of July, Labor Day, and Veteran's Day; and

WHEREAS, after the Tuesday, September 11 "Attack on America" at the request of the City Manager, 253 flags were put up by Wednesday morning with the assistance of the Golden Kiwanis Club, 3 Boy Scouts, and 2 Golden Public Works employees, showing the American Spirit is alive and strong in the City Golden.

THEREFORE I, Mayor Jan C. Schenck, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the City of Golden, do hereby thank the Golden Kiwanis Club, Scout Troop 130 and all citizens who have subscribed to the "American Flag Project".  And officially recognize their efforts in showing that Golden is a proud community.
